SPECIAL NEWSLETTER 3: 7th August 2020 COVID 19 – Opening the club for Bowling
 easing restrictions
Since our last special newsletter on 5th July we have been working very hard to see if there was anything further, we could do to encourage more people to come and bowl through reviving club nights etc. Unfortunately, we see no way to do this safely. Social bowling remains available through a booking system on three rinks, but the clubhouse will remain closed and there will be no access to toilets.
Tony Murphy continues to seek away friendlies if we can raise a team but there will now be no home friendlies or internal competitions this season.
Anyone wishing to bowl should observe the procedures we have set out below which have been updated from last month and are based on current guidance from Bowls England which at all times have been the standards which the club follows in order to allow us to offer safe conditions for our members to bowl.
Key points you should note are:
1.    Anyone self-isolating or displaying symptoms should not bowl.
2.    Bowling will be controlled through a booking system. To book a time, ring Tony Murphy on 07702 307228. This has now become even more important as the lead person making the booking will be the contact for track and trace should that become necessary.
3.    The club house will remain closed. There will be no access to toilets. We cannot ensure a COVID 19 secure environment is maintained inside so please respect this.
4.    You must use your own woods. We will provide mats and jacks. Facilities are available to sanitise these before and after use. All other equipment is out of use.
5.    You may play on your own or with up to three other people from separate households on the same rink enabling pairs games.
6.    Everyone entering the club should sanitise their hands at the gate before entering the club and on exiting the club. All equipment including gate padlock should be sanitised before and after use by the person opening the gate. Lock up as you leave unless others are playing.
7.    Maintain social distancing at all times.
Please now read our full procedures below which explain in more detail how this will work. These can also be read on the website at http://www.newarktownbowlsclub.co.uk/
Play Arrangements:
·        Booking System will be made up of 1-hour slots with 15 minutes either end to avoid groups using the parking facilities at the same time. Times will be allowed for green cutting and maintenance.
·        Play will only be allowed on alternate rinks e.g. 1,3,5 or 2,4,6
·        Maximum of 12 players on club premises at any one time (assuming pairs on all rinks). Players should stay on their own rink and not socialise across rinks
·        Visitors and spectators will now be allowed, but need to be identified by the lead bowler at time of booking for Track and Trace to follow up if necessary.
·        Depending on demand there will be a cap on the number of times a player can book each week.
·        No measuring
Playing Formats:
·        Individuals playing on their own on a single rink
·        singles (no marker)
·        Pairs
·        Exceptionally, Up to 6 members of same household on a single rink
Social distancing rules must be strictly adhered to during play.
Clubhouse and Facilities:
·        Until further notice the clubhouse will be closed and there will be no access to toilet facilities
·        Bring your own sanitiser if you can.  A cleaning station has been established with sanitisers to allow the cleaning of hands and equipment before and after play.
·        You are responsible for the security of the green and should ensure it is locked and sanitised on exiting the club.
·        The equipment shed will be locked and all necessary equipment will be available at the cleaning station
Equipment:
·        Only play using your own woods. Do not touch your opponent’s woods.
·        If you need a bowls lifter please bring your own
·        Two jacks and two mats will be made available for each rink
·        If you wish to score, bring your own scorecard. There will be no scoreboards.

Whilst playing only one person should touch the jacks and mats to minimise the risk of infection.

To maintain social distancing only one spectator should use each bench.

The primary purpose of bowling activity at this time is to aid physical and mental wellbeing. These rules have been put together to try and maximise our access to bowl at the club whilst keeping everyone as safe as possible. We cannot directly police this so we rely on individuals acting responsibly within the rules set out.

SPECIAL NEWSLETTER 2: 5th July 2020COVID 19 – Opening the club for Bowling – easing restrictionsIn our first special newsletter on 26th May we were able to announce that from 1st June the club was reopening in limited fashion for bowling. I am now pleased to announce that we can ease restrictions further and now open 3 rinks for bowling playing singles or pairs with immediate effect.
This has been enabled by an easing of the guidance from Bowls England which at all times has been the standards which the club follows which allows us to offer safe conditions for our members to bowl.

  6. A sanitiser is available at the gate and all equipment including gate padlock should be sanitised before and after use. Lock up as you leave unless others are playing.
  7. Maintain social distancing at all times.
  8. May we remind you that the Clinically vulnerable people (such as people aged 70 and over)  If you are in this group, you could be at higher risk of severe illness from coronavirus. Therefore although you can meet people outdoors you should be especially careful and be diligent about social distancing and hand hygiene.
